Flickr Pool

Flickr members shoot and share amazing photographs. We started a pool to tie together various aspects of urban life. We hope that this page gives those individuals just a little more exposure to share

photographs documenting urban and built environments, urban life, people doing city-fied things, street scenes, signs and semiotics, markings and graffiti, and whatever makes your urban / suburban / exurban / whatev-urban environment meaningful.

Group Rules and Call for Photographs

We are looking for great photographs for possible inclusion in our Urban Archives Digital Collections. We would eventually like to officially and formally archive these photographs in our repository housed at the University of Washington Libraries in Seattle, where they will be enshrined and institutionalized in a searchable, organized, academic archives available to researchers, citizens, and students alike.

For this reason, we like to work with Creative Commons Licensed photos. At some point, we will begin contacting possible donors individually to have them donate high-quality versions of their Flickr photos to our archives. We aim to have you retain your copyright to your images; however, he would like your permission for others to use them for research and non-commercial use.

Photographs without location information are somewhat useless to us. Please geo-tag your photos –either from a GPS or using the Flickr mapping feature– before including them in the pool. Alternatively, note an address, intersection, or landmark in the description or the tages. The more information you have, the better. Also, if you have any other contextual information about the photo, its location, its history, or random notes/observations about the subject(s) of the photo, we would love to hear about that too.

If we would like to include your photograph in our collections, we will contact you and, besides permission, ask for further, more specific information about the photo, its location, its subjects of interest, and other context.
