"Public Billboards" |
| Graffiti Index |
In the past several months, I have noticed the appearace of more and more stickers on the back of official, regulatory signs. This is the signage that dictates parking regulations and traffic flow down streets, for example. Often, the signs are strapped to parking meters; some, of course, are on taller poles. I first noticed that the low signs started aquiring lots of stickers on their blank, backsides. Over the last month or two (since June 2004), I have noticed a marked increase in the number of stickers appearing on the backs of signs. This phenomenon has become a sort of "public billboard" in that people stick messages of their choice onto a semi-permanent structure designed to hold a message. The back-of-sign space functions exactly as a large billboard does. [ View Images ] |
